The Far East Austin Community Development Corporation, also known as the FEA CDC, is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to fostering positive change and sustainable growth in the Far East Austin area. We operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
We strive to serve as a catalyst for positive change in the New East Austin by spearheading strategic improvement projects. Our overarching goal is to empower our community, one project at a time, by fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable development within the New East Austin to enhance the quality of life for all.
Our purposes specifically include:
• Promoting an ethnically and economically diverse neighborhood.
• Engaging in community projects for the benefit of the Far East Austin Community.
We aim to build a thriving extra territorial jurisdiction through impactful improvement projects that address the needs and aspirations of residents, creating a vibrant and inclusive community for generations to come. This includes improving infrastructure, social well-being, and economic opportunities for all residents.
We envision a thriving New East Austin where residents have access to quality education, healthcare, and employment opportunities, creating a sustainable and inclusive community that stands as a model for others. Our ideal future is one where every resident thrives, where vibrant green spaces meet modern amenities, and a strong sense of community fosters a brighter future for all. We believe this future will be achieved where innovation fuels progress, community engagement strengthens bonds, and residents of all backgrounds feel empowered to shape their future.
The operations of the FEA CDC are centered on the Far East Austin Neighborhood. For the purposes of our Bylaws, this area includes the neighborhoods of Austin’s Colony, Chaparral Crossing, Forest Bluff, Kennedy Ridge, and Tiermo.
The management of the business and affairs of the Corporation is vested in the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors consists of nine Members who are responsible for managing the Corporation's affairs. Directors are elected by a majority of the Members immediately prior to the Annual Meeting. Directors serve staggered terms of three calendar years.
The Board elects the Corporation’s officers, who serve a one-year term. The officers include a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. The President serves as the principal executive officer, supervising and controlling the business and affairs of the Corporation, and presides over all meetings of the Board of Directors and the Annual Meeting. The Treasurer presents a monthly financial report at regular Board meetings and the yearly Fiscal Report at the Annual Meeting.
The FEA CDC operates under strict financial guidelines to maintain its nonprofit status. No part of the Corporation's income shall be distributed to its Directors. Directors and members of their Immediate Family shall not receive a salary or any other compensation from the FEA CDC, other than reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket expenses. Furthermore, the Corporation is prohibited from lending money or items of value to any Directors or members of their Immediate Family.
The Corporation utilizes Standing Committees and Ad Hoc Committees to assist in its management. Committee membership is open to all interested individuals, but the majority of members must be Members of the CCDC.
The Corporation maintains official Members. To be an Eligible Member, a person must be a current resident of the Far East Austin Neighborhood and be eighteen years or older. A person becomes an official Member by submitting a completed Membership Application to the Board’s Secretary. Each Member is entitled to one vote.
All Meetings of the Far East Austin CDC are scheduled to be held on the first Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Healthcare Center, 3700 Gilbert Rd, Austin, Texas 78725, unless notice to the contrary is posted.
Regular Meetings of the Board of Directors are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m..
