Water Rate Protest
A meeting is scheduled for the end of January to address the ongoing water rate issues. Lynette Cooper, a lawyer, will assist Richard in preparing talking points for the meeting. The main goal is to advocate for improved water quality in the area. It was also emphasized that local school officials should be informed about the current water quality concerns.
Grant Application
Updates on the grant application are pending. The initial project proposed is a crafting after-school program for middle and high school students, which will be run by community volunteers. This program will not only benefit the youth but also establish a track record that can support future grant applications. The program is planned to take place at the community health center.
Far East Austin Community Development Corporation (CDC)
The Far East Austin CDC is now officially a nonprofit organization, enabling it to apply for grants. Members are seeking leads for grant opportunities. A bank account needs to be opened to manage funds and fundraising activities. Discussions are ongoing about which financial institution to use, with plans to have at least three signatories on the account.
Tesla Road Extension
The Tesla Road extension project, identified by Reference ID SP-2024-0453D, was discussed. More details can be accessed through the case link. The current plan shows the road cutting through parkland at Deaf Smith, resulting in a loss of park space. The proposed egress will connect to Highway 969 instead of 973.

Far East Austin Pet Committee
A new initiative, tentatively called the Far East Austin Pet Committee, has been proposed to create a trap-and-release group for managing stray animals in the area. Volunteers are needed to support this effort. The committee's first project could involve bringing Emancipet to the neighborhood for mobile spay and neuter clinics. A location must be secured before reaching out to Emancipet. Additionally, a spay and neuter event is scheduled for January 8-12.
Period Pantry
Plans are underway to set up a period pantry to provide free period products. The pantry will be located at Soujourner and Westall.
Street Lighting
The need for additional street lighting was discussed, particularly in dark spots within the neighborhood, to improve safety and visibility.
